Legendary Doris Day Passes Away at 97

Sad news today as Doris Day, legendary singer and actress from the Golden Age, has passed away at the age of 97.

Doris reportedly died from complications of pneumonia according to the Doris Day Foundation. The 97-year-old was said to be in excellent health until she came down with the illness.

Doris Day was a big star in the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood, ranking as one of the top-ranked female box-office stars of all time with such hits as The Man Who Knew Too Much, Calamity Jane, Pillow Talk, and That Touch of Mink to name just a few.

In addition to being a fantastic, Academy Award winning actress, Day was also a hig singer with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Her breakout song came in 1947 with the hit “Sentimental Journey.” She brought her gift for song to the big screen with the hit song “Que Será, Será” in 1956’s The Man Who Knew Too Much (also starring James Stewart).

Day had her own show on CBS, The Doris Day Show, 1968 until 1973.

Since the end of her show in the 70s, Doris largely stayed out of the spotlight choosing instead to work with animals and rescuing them. She founded the Doris Day Animal Foundation in 1978.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Doris Day.  RIP.
