Excellent Movie

Death to Smoochy Review

If you enjoy dark and often obscene comedies, then Death to Smoochy is a must-own movie for you. Robin Williams is at his comedic best as former kid show host, Rainbow Randolph. Rainbow was ousted by Kid Net, after accepting bribes for the show. His replacement is the “squeaky clean”, Sheldon ‘Smoochy’ Mopes (Edward Norton), a fuchsia Rhino who’s catchphrase is “You can’t change the world, but you can make a dent.”

The popularity of Smoochy’s Magic Jungle sky rockets to a national phenomenon, while driving Rainbow completely mad with anger. He sets out to try and destroy the rhino, bringing out dick shaped cookies onto the show, and framing Sheldon at a Nazi rally. Rainbow’s anger and rage grows even more furious when he learns that Kid Net executive Nora Wells (Catherine Keener) is dating Sheldon. Rainbow sets out on a quest to kill the rhino.

What ensues is a non-stop roller coaster ride of hilarity, filled with double-cross, murder, romance, and an unlikely alliance. Rounding out a suburb cast, are the supporting characters M. Frank Stokes (Jon Stewart), Burke Bennett (Danny DeVito), Tommy Cotter (Pam Ferris), Spinner Dunn/Moochy (Michael Rispoli), Merv Green (Harvey Fierstein), and Buggy Ding Dong (Vincent Schiavelli).

The cast comes together to create a great film, albeit one with a bit of a “dark” edge and laced with obscenities. Be on the look out for a special batch of cookies made by Rainbow Randolph, that scene will have you rolling on the floor, laughing your ass off.

Do yourself a favor, buy the DVD ASAP if you don’t already have it. GO! Filled with non-stop laughs, this is a movie that you will enjoy many times over.

Added bonuses:

Love this movie!

Death to Smoochy gets a five out of five: EXCELLENT.

  1. Oh man, I haven’t seen this in years, but I remember loving it back then. Didn’t realize this was on Amazon Prime, so thanks for the heads up! Can’t wait to revisit this.
